Text messages from the Foundation

The Hawaii Foundation for the Blind sends text messages for one purpose: to let a member of its board of directors sign in to the board portal without a password. This page says what is sent, how a director opts in, and how to stop.

What is sent

  • A verification code, once, when a director adds a mobile number in their portal settings. It confirms the number is theirs.
  • A one-time sign-in link, each time a director asks for one by entering their confirmed number on the sign-in page. It works once and expires in thirty minutes.

Nothing else. No reminders, no newsletters, no appeals. A director who never asks for a link receives nothing after the one code. Message frequency depends entirely on how often the director chooses to sign in by text; a few messages a month is typical. Message and data rates may apply.

How a director opts in

Only board members can opt in, and only for themselves. A director signs in to the portal by emailed link, opens Your settings, then Your contact details, and enters a mobile number in the box labelled Mobile number for sign-in by text. The form says, beside the number: “We text a code to it before any sign-in link goes there.” Saving the page texts a six-digit code to the number, and the director enters that code back into the portal and saves again. Until the code is entered, the number receives nothing further. The director can remove the number from the same page at any time, and this page, linked beside the number, says what is sent and how to stop.

How to stop, and how to get help

  • Reply STOP to any text from the Foundation. No further texts are sent, and sign-in links return to email. Reply START to resume.
  • Reply HELP for help by text, or telephone the Foundation on (808) 378-5908, or email email@hfblind.org.
  • Remove the number under Your settings in the portal.

Privacy

A mobile number given for sign-in is held by the Foundation for that one purpose. It is not shared with the rest of the board unless the director chooses to share it on the Board contacts page, and mobile numbers and text-message consent are never sold, shared or transferred to third parties or affiliates for marketing or any other purpose. The Foundation’s telephone service provider carries the messages and sees the numbers, as any carrier does, and uses them only to deliver them. Removing the number from the portal deletes it from the Foundation’s records.
