Hawaii Foundation for the Blind

Privacy Policy

This policy says what the Hawaii Foundation for the Blind collects through this site and its telephone number, what it does with it, and what it will not do. Last revised 5 October 2026.

Reading the public site

You can read every public page without an account. The site sets one cookie only if you change the reading settings (colors, text size, typeface), so the choice holds on your next visit; it contains those choices and nothing else. There is no advertising, no analytics service and no third-party script on any page. The web server keeps ordinary access logs, which include your IP address, for security and to diagnose faults, and they are not used for any other purpose.

The board portal

The board portal is for the Foundation’s directors, officers, staff and advisors. For each member the Foundation holds a name, an email address, a role and title, and, if the member chooses to add them, a telephone number, a mailing address and a mobile number for sign-in by text. The email address is also how a member signs in: there are no passwords, and a one-time link is emailed or texted on request. An instructor or coach the Foundation engages has an account of the same kind that holds only the documents the Foundation requires of them: a tax form, a license, an insurance certificate, a certification, each with its expiry date. Those are read by the administrator and by nobody else, and the portal emails the instructor before one expires.

The portal records who signed in and when, and who read, changed or signed which record. This is the Foundation’s corporate record and is kept for as long as the Foundation keeps its governance records. A member sees only what fellow members have chosen to share on the Board contacts page. Session cookies keep a member signed in and are deleted on sign-out.

Text messages and the telephone

A board member may give a mobile number to receive sign-in links by text. The number is confirmed by a code before any link is sent, is used for that purpose only, and is deleted when the member removes it in their settings or replies STOP. What is sent, and how to stop, is set out on Text messages from the Foundation.

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Mobile numbers and text-message consent are never sold, shared or transferred to any third party or affiliate for marketing or lead generation.

Calls to the Foundation’s number may be forwarded to a director’s own telephone or go to voicemail. A voicemail is recorded and transcribed by machine, and the recording and transcript are emailed to the people who handle that kind of call and kept in the portal until the matter is dealt with. A text message to the number is handled the same way. The caller’s number is kept with the message so the Foundation can call back.

Who else sees it

The Foundation uses service providers to run this site and its telephone, and they handle information only to provide that service: a hosting provider for the server, an email provider for the Foundation’s mail, and a telephone provider that carries calls and text messages and stores voicemail recordings. The Foundation does not sell personal information to anyone, and does not share it with anyone else except as the law requires or as the Foundation’s own governance requires, for example its accountants or counsel.

Your choices

A board member can see and change their own contact details and mobile number in the portal at any time. Anyone can ask what the Foundation holds about them, or ask for it to be corrected or deleted, by telephoning (808) 378-5908, emailing email@hfblind.org, or writing to the Foundation at 643 Ilalo Street #1000, Honolulu, HI 96813. The Foundation will keep what its governance record requires it to keep, and say so.
